Today:
We have some great weather in store for Valentine’s Day, with clear, sunny conditions. Morning temperatures are starting off a little chilly in the high 20s, which eventually reach and stay in the high 30s in the afternoon and early evening before dipping back down into the lower 30s. Wind speeds will range between 10 to 15 mph, with some gusts nearing 20 mph.
Tonight:
Clouds are expected to roll in overnight due to the impending low-pressure system arriving for the weekend. Temperatures will be in the mid 20s, with light and variable winds. We will not be seeing any precipitation just yet, so if you will be outside, savor the dry weather!
Saturday:
We will be kicking off the weekend with some wintery mix in the morning turning to sleet in the afternoon around 1 p.m. This will turn into rain from 4 p.m. onwards. Morning temperatures will be in the upper 20s to lower 30s. In the afternoon, temperatures will reach the upper 30s and stay in this range throughout the evening.
Looking Ahead:
The weekend will have perfect staying-in weather! The rain will continue into Sunday with temperatures in the high 50s. The low-pressure system that is bringing the precipitation into our area will make way for a high-pressure system Sunday evening, bringing with it sunnier and drier weather as we start the new week with colder temperatures.
Discussion:
When the cold front that brought colder temperatures today moves offshore, the high-pressure system moves offshore shortly after. The low-pressure system that will sit over our region for the weekend brings a line of precipitation that stretches across the entire East Coast!

This GFS model shows the high-pressure system we are under today, indicated by the blue “H”, giving us a brief break from the wet weather. High air pressure systems are areas of sinking air that bring clear, stable weather.

Here is the lengthy low-pressure system on Sunday that will kick out the high-pressure system from today. Low-pressure systems are areas of rising air associated with unstable, wet weather.
That’s all we have for this week. Have a great weekend terps!
