Morning Update: A Dangerously Windy Tuesday

Today: Today will not be a fun day to go outside. The temperature will start out just above freezing, with the wind chill in the teens. The air temperature may get above 40, but the wind chill will remain below freezing for the entire day. Winds may be gusting up to 55 or even 60 mph in the afternoon, with a constant breeze of near 30 mph. This is all caused by the extreme pressure gradient between the extreme low pressure of the developing nor’easter in the Northeast and a high pressure system holding over the Midwest. As far as precipitation goes, there is no chance of rain today as skies will remain clear all day. All in all, bundle up warmly no matter what time of day you are going out today.

Tonight: Tonight will probably be one of, if not the coldest night of the year. It may remain bearable until the sun goes down and the temperature and wind chill both drop below freezing, with the wind chill dipping into the low teens overnight. The low is officially listed as 29, but it will feel a whole lot colder than that.

Tomorrow: Those looking for an early start tomorrow morning will be greeted with a wind chill around 10 degrees at 6 a.m. Winds will not be nearly as severe tomorrow, decreasing as the day goes on, but gusts could still reach 40 mph. It will also warm up considerably more than today, with the air temperature reaching somewhere around 50 degrees by mid-afternoon. By tomorrow night winds will have dropped to 10 mph, but the low will still be just above or below freezing. Overall, a nicer day tomorrow with the same chilly wind as today just on a diminished scale.

A Look Ahead: The high pressure over the Midwest previously mentioned will move into our area early Thursday morning, warming up our week considerably. Both Thursday and Friday should have highs above 60 degrees, with clear skies for all of Thursday and for all day Friday until the late evening hours when there is potential for rain. Rain will most likely come in the early morning hours on Saturday as low pressure moves in, but will most likely stop before noon. Then the chilly air will come back later on Saturday and carrying into Sunday, with a high of 45 on Sunday.
