After a relatively mild day with highs reaching 51 degrees in terp-nation, a robust cold front is looming. Even though the sun never peaked out to say hello, the nice southwesterly winds brought the mercury above average for the day. Luckily, any rain showers held off, keeping campus nice and dry on this first Thursday in February.
Through Tonight:
That robust cold front mentioned before will really start to take form tonight for the DMV. While the warmer temperature keep things in rain-mode, the cold air will prevail later tonight when the clock switches over to AM, giving way to a few snowflakes. But don’t get too excited. The snow won’t stick too well to paved surface as road temperatures staying above freezing, thanks to today’s mild highs, so no chance for a school delay. Those bone-chilling temps will return though. You may need a thick sweater and good parka tonight as lows plummet into the 30s just after midnight, reminding us all that the we’re still in the middle of winter. Winds will stay on the mostly calm side at 5-10 mph tonight.
Tomorrow (Friday):
Bring back the big coats and mittens, terps. The cold front will leave us with a good taste of wintry weather. Keep an eye on those dashboard thermometers as the highs only reach the freezing mark. Not only will Old Man Winter be casting chilly spells, but the winds won’t help either. Blustery conditions are on the menu with gusts reaching up to 32 mph but a few cheery snow flurries will make their way around campus too! Luckily, the sun will try to warm things up by peaking out later in the day but unfortunately, it won’t help much. Don’t be too discouraged, however, spring is just 46 days away! Soon those tulips will be rising and Old Man Winter will go back into hibernation.
