PM Update: Rain continues tomorrow, but warmth is on the horizon.

Light showers moved through the area to start today and have picked up in intensity this afternoon; helping firefighters battle the apartment fire just outside of campus. A mix between a northeasterly breeze and a low cloud ceiling helped the smoke stay trapped on campus. It was bad enough to cause UMD officials to close the University at 1 pm.  The low pressure system associated with these showers will slowly work its’ way north and bring more rain to the region on Tuesday. Warm and above average temperatures appear to move in during the end of the week just in time for Maryland Day.

Through Tonight:

The cool and damp theme continues tonight as more showers flow in from the south. Temperatures will drop into the low 50s. Winds will also pick up as the low pressure moves closer to the region. They will be out of the northeast at 10-15 mph, gusting to 25 mph.

Tomorrow (Tuesday):

More much needed rain will entrench the local area throughout the day. Showers will accompany your morning and evening commutes. High temperatures will only make it up to the low 60s as many wonder where the sun has gone. Total rain amounts will be around an inch leading to possible standing water on roadways. Winds will also remain out of the northeast at 10-15 mph, with gusts to 25 mph.

Maryland Day Outlook:

Maryland day is this Saturday, April 29th and it is never to early to take a look at what the weather will be for the annual activities. Since it is 5 days away the forecast is subject to change, but as of right now it looks like a tank-top and flip-flop kind of day. The latest GFS model shows temperatures in the mid 80s in the afternoon with some showers approaching from the west late in the day (images below). Check back here for daily updates this week.
