Some of the coldest temperatures of the season are expected tonight around the Baltimore-Washington area. With clearing skies late tonight combined with radiative cooling from the snow covered surface, we can expect temperataures in the single digits in the immediate metro areas, and temps below 0ºF in the rural areas. Additionally, winds will be sustained around 10-15mph from the northwest, leading to wind chills well below 0ºF over the entire area, with particularly dangerous windchills west of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
We here in the mid-atlantic are not alone in the cold. Temperatures in the Great Lakes region are forecasted to be -10ºF or lower tonight and locations as far south as Orlando can see below-freezing temperatures by Friday morning.
