Morning Update: Friday Rain Makes Way for a Beautiful Weekend!

Expect some rain this morning, which will leave the area by the afternoon. Weekend temperatures will gradually increase as the weekend progresses.

Today:

Morning temperatures will start out rather warm in the lower 60s before cooling into the lower 50s by the afternoon. Evening temperatures will continue to drop, and will be in the mid-40s. Intermittent showers will move into the area for the morning commute, and should be out of the way around noon. Winds will be in the 10 to 15 mph range, with potential gusts around 20 mph.

Tonight:

Overnight temperatures will fall into the upper 30s. Winds will continue to be in the 5 to 10 mph range. Expect clouds to move out of the area as the night progresses.

Tomorrow (Saturday):

Tomorrow, morning temperatures will start in the upper 30s and a high around 50 degrees will be reached by the early afternoon. Early evening temperatures will be in the lower 40s. Throughout the day, winds will pick back up into the 10 to 15 mph range. Sunny conditions will persist, making it a great day to go outside yet again!

Looking Ahead:

For the remainder of the weekend, temperatures will gradually continue to warm. This warming trend will continue into the start of next week. Clouds will creep back into the area on Sunday. With peak bloom of the D.C. cherry blossoms underway, this weekend will be a great week to check out spring around the DMV area!

Discussion:

The reason behind the rain we are experiencing is a strong cold front moving in from the north. As this front moves in, wind direction changes from being out of the southwest to out of the north. This ushers in the cooler temperatures that will be in place as we head into the weekend.

Pictured above is the cold front as of yesterday evening. If you noticed the winds picking up yesterday afternoon, that was because of the cold front entering our region!

That’s all for today. Have a great day, Terps!
