Morning Update: Snow Today, More Chances of Winter Weather This Week

Today:

The day is starting with big flakes and heavy, wet snow as today is the second Sunday in a row College Park will see accumulating snowfall. Roads will generally be in good condition as temperatures this afternoon rise to around 40 degrees and the snow tapers off. Winds will be out of the northwest at 5 to 10 mph.

Tonight:

Temperatures will tumble after sunset and any wet surfaces will quickly turn into a sheet of ice as lows bottom out in the low 20s. Skies will be partly cloudy and a northwest breeze at 10 mph will send wind chills into the teens overnight.

Tomorrow (Monday):

The week starts off cold with highs Monday only reaching the mid 30s, 10 to 15 degrees below normal for this time of year. At least skies will be partly cloudy and winds will be light, so wind chills won’t be much of a factor.

There is a medium (30-50%) chance for snow/sleet adding up to 0.25″ of liquid equivalent Thursday (image via wpc.ncep.noaa.gov).

A Look Ahead:

Tuesday temperatures bounce back to near average, but the rest of the week will be chilly and a nasty wintry mix looks increasingly likely Wednesday night into Thursday.
