After starting off under low clouds and sprinkles of rain, the sun finally peaked out of the clouds around 11 AM and began to really warm things up for the day. So far, today has been the warmest day in April and it looks like it will be the warmest day for the rest of the week. The mercury rose to the 78-degree mark, making it the perfect afternoon for a walk or an ice cream cone from the Maryland Dairy. It did stay quite breezy with winds sustained at 15 to 18 mph. Gusts peaked around 32 mph. Thanks to the warm temperatures, it will be a perfect afternoon for a ball game at Bob “Turtle” Smith stadium. You can watch the Terps take on the Richmond Spiders at 4 PM.
Through Tonight: By sunset, lingering clouds move out to the east. The night-time temperatures will dip down into the tolerable low 50s. By sunset, the winds will noticeably calm down to around 6 to 11 mph (coming out of the west). Don’t worry about keeping an umbrella with you during late-night study sessions. Tonight will be mainly clear of rain showers.

This image shows the night-time low of 52 degrees being hit at 5 AM EDT on 4/5/2017 from TerpWRF TROWAL.
Tomorrow (Wednesday): Grab the sunglasses! The big yellow ball in the sky will be your only worry for the day. Temperatures will be quite comfortable as they reach into the low 70s. A cloud or two may pass by but no rain is in the forecast. A slight breeze will be coming out of the northwest around 5 to 10 mph. The clouds will begin to invade the area later in the afternoon as a low pressure system approaches the DMV.
