Evening Update: Winds Start To Calm As A Warming Trend Is In Sight

The gusty winds and cool temperatures that we’ve been dealing with over the past day will finally start to move out of our area as a new weather pattern starts to take shape.  As we head towards the end of the week, a large ridge will start to take hold of most of the U.S. and usher in above-average temperatures to our area. It will begin to feel like early spring, rather than late winter.

Through Tonight:

Northwest winds will continue to weaken across the area this evening and remain calm overnight.  Expect temperatures to fall to the mid-to-upper 20s under clear skies.

Tomorrow (Friday):

The morning hours will still be quite chilly as temperatures will remain in the upper 20s to low 30s, but will quickly rise under clear, sunny skies.  By midday, temperatures will reach the lower 50s as sunny skies and calm winds remain, setting the stage for a wonderful weekend ahead.

Beyond the DMV:

Most of the U.S. will remain quiet as we head towards the end of the week, but central and southern California will get another opportunity at plentiful rain and snow as a trough will replace the large ridge that will be impacting our area.  The Weather Prediction Center (WPC) is forecasting nearly 9 inches of precipitation for the central and southern California coast as a strong low pressure system makes its way towards the region.
