Morning Update: A Short-lived Break from the Rain

Today:

Midterm season and rain showers are not the best duo, but at least today we will be seeing a break from the rain! Morning temperatures will stay in the low 70s and crescendo into a high temperature around 80 degrees by the afternoon. The early evening will see temperatures drop back into the low 70s. Expect cloudy skies and winds around 5 mph.

Tonight:

Clouds and light winds throughout today will continue into the evening. The low temperature for tonight will be around 64 degrees.

Saturday:

Expect yet another cloudy day, with the potential for evening rain entering the area, so no hanging up your umbrellas just yet! Temperatures start in the high 60s to make way for a daytime high in the mid-70s. After this, temperatures ease back into the high 60s. Winds will be around 5 mph.

Looking Ahead:

Throughout the weekend and into the start of next week, we are going to be seeing a cooling trend. Around Saturday evening into Sunday morning, the rain will be returning to our area.

Discussion:

The rain we saw yesterday was a product of a cold front and low pressure system, as Frances mentioned in her Wednesday article. While this combination has left our local area, the front will linger just ahead of us, and moisture from the Gulf will continue to persist. This fact along with the upper-level low brewing in the region explains why we are not out of the woods in terms of precipitation over the weekend.

Here is the weather map for today depicting the cold front-low pressure combination from yesterday moving offshore. While we may just be seeing some clouds today, you can see rain slowly creeping into our area.

For the weekend, the green dotted regions indicate we will be getting a second batch of rain in our area.

That’s all for today. Have a great day, Terps!
