Today:
Temperatures reach the lower upper 70s with only a few clouds, leading to pleasant conditions as we enter the typically nicest time of year. A few spots could touch 80, which may be a little warm for some, but humidity remains low. However, pollen counts remain quite high today, so allergy sufferers may not find today as enjoyable as the weather.
Tonight:
Temperatures will fall to the low 50s, which is slightly chilly but above average for this time of year.
Tomorrow (Thursday):
Conditions will be similar to today, but a few degrees warmer as southwesterly winds remain. Expect low cloud cover and humidity, but most spots are likely to hit 80. Areas in central and northern Maryland may stay in the upper 70s. Tomorrow night will be cool and pleasant, like many recent nights. Temperatures should bottom out around the mid 50s while cloud cover remains low.
A Look Ahead:
Unsettled weather makes its way to this weekend, but conditions are not expected to be a total washout. Clouds build up on Friday, and a stray shower or storm is possible. However, most spots should stay dry. Temperatures cool slightly to the mid 70s. On Saturday, scattered thunderstorms are possible, possibly putting a damper on outdoor Maryland day plans. However, the severe threat remains relatively low, and will not be a total washout. Some spots may be completely dry, but clouds will be numerous as most spots reach 80.
Discussion: 90 Degrees in our Future?
It’s only April, but heat is beginning to pop up in the longer range. Next week, a large dome of high pressure will set up near Bermuda, which is a classic summertime pattern. Warm, humid air will rise up the coast, possibly pushing temps 10 to 15 degrees above normal. A couple of computer simulations have us reaching 90 degrees, which is probably too early for most of us. If 90 degrees does occur, it will be about two weeks earlier than normal, which is unusual but not record-breaking. Unsettled weather will occur, and we may need to be on the watch for severe weather in the middle of next week. Fortunately, as it is typical for heatwaves this time of year, the heat will likely be short-lived.
