Morning Update: Lets Go Fly A Kite

Today:

I hope you enjoyed this bit of a warming period we had this week because it is coming to a close. Today, the high is going to be 48 with sunny skies. Doesn’t sound too bad until you consider the northwest winds ranging from 10-16 mph. Some strong gusts may even reach 29 mph! If you happened to bring a kite to campus, today should be the perfect day to go out and fly it.

A screenshot of the national frontal map for Friday, as you can see there is nothing significant over campus today but a high pressure is coming in for the weekend. (Image via WPC)

Tonight:

It’s going to be chilly tonight with temperatures around 27. Thankfully, the winds are going to die down to 5 mph so the windchill should be around zero. There is no rain in the forecast tonight so if you’re going out you only need to bring layers.

Tomorrow (Saturday):

Tomorrow is expected to have similar temperatures to today with a high of around 50. The only difference is that it is going to be significantly less windy with the winds coming out of the southeast at 5 mph. Skies will be partly cloudy but it should still make for a nice Saturday before the break.

Tomorrow Night (Saturday):

Temperatures will be a little warmer than tonight staying in the mid 30s with light and variable winds. Cloud cover is expected to increase throughout the day so don’t expect to see many stars or the moon tonight.

A Look Ahead:

Sadly, this high pressure system that we’ve been living in for the weekend is going to leave us next week and a cold front is going to come through. There is a chance that this will bring showers to the area but I think that it is still too warm for snow unfortunately. After this front passes winds from the Great Lakes will bring chilly conditions for Monday night and Tuesday’s high is expected to be in the 40’s. So please enjoy this weekend because it looks like it’s the warmest we’re gonna get for a while!
