Morning Update: The Return of the Groundhog

Yeah, this is another Punxsutawney Phil article. I don’t know why, but something about a weather-predicting groundhog is really entertaining to me. Anyway, here’s your weather.

Today:

The temperature continues on its upward trend, with highs expected to peak in the low 50s. There will be cloud cover early in the day, giving way to sunny skies in the late afternoon.

Tonight:

Lows will drop to about 27 degrees F, with minimal wind chill. Partly cloudy skies will persist overnight.

Tomorrow (Saturday):

Temperatures will start to trend downwards on the first day of the weekend, with highs only topping out in the upper 40s. However, cloud cover will prevent the nighttime low from dipping below freezing.

A (Far) Look Ahead:

Here’s what y’all were waiting for: Punxsutawney Phil is back at it again. On February 2nd, Phil saw his shadow, predicting another six weeks of winter. According to NOAA’s three month temperature outlook, our area has a 40% chance of experiencing above average temperatures. However, with La Niña in effect, these temperatures may still be low enough for an extended winter and active snowstorm season. In six weeks, we’ll reconvene and see if the fabled groundhog got it right this time around. Or, you can go buy yourself a groundhog and test it yourself. (Not recommended, but if you do, let me know). In the meantime, keep your snow shovels handy because it’s looking like you’re going to need them.
