Morning Update: Soggy Sunday

Today:

Sunday morning will dawn with heavy clouds and heavy rain. The precipitation is expected to continue until the mid-afternoon. Once the rain clears up, temperatures are expected to reach a high near 75 degrees F. Winds will be coming out of the southwest at 10 mph. While the region is expected to dry out once the rain stops, there is a small chance of thunderstorms occurring in the late afternoon.

Tonight:

Both the rain and clouds are expected to clear up by early evening. As the evening passes, winds will die down and shift directions. At night, the winds will be coming from the northwest at 5 mph. The nightly low temperature will be near 50 degrees F, so be sure to take a jacket if you go outside. If you can find an area with low light pollution, Sunday night will be an excellent chance to look for meteors from the Orionid meteor shower.

Tomorrow (Monday):

The first day of the week will give the region a chance to dry out after Sunday’s rain. A high pressure ridge will keep the region dry and clear until late Monday night. Temperatures are expected to be in the upper 60s throughout the afternoon and into the evening. Due to the weather, Monday will be a great day to kick off the University of Maryland’s homecoming festivities.

A Look Ahead:

The high pressure system is expected to keep the region dry and cool into the second half of the week. High temperatures will be in the mid 60s. A cold front will move through the region on Thursday bringing the possibility of rain showers to dampen any Halloween festivities. Following the cold front, temperatures will drop and usher in a chilly first day of November.
