Evening Update: Rain to Break, But Winds to Come

For the second day in a row, College Park was muddied by some cold, winter rain with a high of 38 degrees. This was the kind of rain where you either wear a thick sweater under your raincoat and arrive in class hot and sweaty from the dampness trapped inside your coat, or you wear lighter clothes and are pierced by the cold wind while you walk outside. You can’t win.

Tonight (Tuesday):

This cold rain will continue tonight, mostly before 1 a.m. as temperatures drop slightly to 35 degrees. Winds will be light and variable, then after midnight will come from the west at 6 to 11 mph. The chance of precipitation is 100%, adding about 0.25 to 0.5 inches to what has already fallen. A cold front will sweep through the region during the night, and bring an end to the rain.

Tomorrow (Wednesday):

Watch out for the winds tomorrow, which will come from the west at 9 to 14 mph, increasing to 17 to 22 mph in the afternoon, with gusts reaching as high as 34 mph. The skies will be mostly sunny, with a high of about 43 degrees.

The rain from today (Tuesday) will move off the coast as the cold front moves in overnight. This will cause a breezy day tomorrow (Wednesday). The high pressure system to our southwest will move over our region by tomorrow night. (Image via Tropical Tidbits)

Tomorrow Night:

Wednesday night will be mostly clear due to a high pressure system that will move into our region following the cold front with a low dipping into the upper 20s. Winds will be from the west at 5 to 11 mph.
