Evening Update: A Thanksgiving as Cold as the Ice Cream on Your Apple Pie

Today is a typical Thanksgiving Eve with seasonal temperatures in the mid-50s and a slight breeze. Although many of our readers may have traveled home for the holidays, those who are still in the area are looking at a sharp drop in temperatures for turkey day tomorrow.

Tonight:

Temperatures will plummet to 25 degrees tonight as a strong cold front moves through the region. The front will not bring any precipitation, which is good news for anyone traveling to meet their family tonight. However, it will bring a north wind at 9 to 13 mph with gusts reaching 21 mph.

Tomorrow (Thursday):

With a high of only 31 degrees, staying inside all day to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade at 9 a.m. and the Redskins face the Cowboys at 4 p.m. doesn’t sound too bad. However, those who do brave the cold will also have to deal with 8 to 10 mph winds and gusts up to 20 mph, including those in New York for the parade which may be forced to ground the balloons due to high winds.

Tomorrow Night:

The low tomorrow night will be a frigid 19 degrees, with a northeast wind at 3 to 8 mph making it feel even colder. While this cold may not be record-breaking, the predicted temperatures are still well below the DCA normal high and low of 55 and 39 degrees for November 22nd. Either way, this is shaping up to be the coldest Thanksgiving in over 2 decades!

2m temperature anomaly tomorrow at 7 p.m. will be about 9 degrees C (16.2 degrees F) below the climatological average in College Park (image via tropicaltidbits.com)
