Evening Update: Lots of Rain on the Way

Today felt more like early December than November, with temperatures in the mid to low 40s and cloudy skies. The dreary weather today will make way for even worse weather tomorrow, as rainfall will take up nearly the whole day.

Tonight:

Clouds will be changing from overcast to partly or mostly cloudy. Temperatures will drop to almost freezing overnight, with light and variable winds.

Tomorrow (Thursday):

It will rain most, if not all, of the day tomorrow. Temperatures only reaching into the upper 30s mean that there’s a high chance for mixed precipitation during the day, but anything more than rain with some sleet mixed in is unlikely. Winds will pick up during the day as the system comes through, bringing winds up to 10-15 mph to the northeast.

Rainfall with a chance of frozen precipitation moves through the Mid-Atlantic Thursday and Thursday Evening (GFS model image from Tropical Tidbits).

Tomorrow Evening:

Rainfall will continue well into the night, not weakening until nearly sunrise on Friday. Temperatures will only drop a few degrees into the mid-30s, and winds will remain the same intensity, just shifting from northeast to west-northwest.

Looking Ahead:

The weekend will be dry and sunny—something that will definitely be welcome after this storm moves through. Temperatures will be very similar to what we were experiencing before the storm, with highs generally in the upper 40s and lower 50s, and lows coming very close to freezing. It will be a cold weekend, but at least it will be dry.
