Temperatures today have been very cool for this time of year, topping out right around 50 degrees. That is about 15 degrees below average for a high temperature in late October. The cool temperatures are thanks to a thick layer of cloud cover and an east wind in the 5-10 mph range from a low pressure system to the south.
Tonight:
Skies will remain cloudy tonight, and there will be rain thanks to the storm system to the south. The system will begin to gain intensity near the coast of Virginia overnight, and that will bring some heavier rain and gusty winds. The rain will be heaviest late this evening into late tonight. An east wind will pick up from about 10 mph this evening to 15 mph overnight. Winds will be gusting in the 20-30 mph range after midnight. The chance of rain is 100%, and amounts tonight will likely range in the .75 inch to the 1 inch range. Temperatures will hold steady in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees.
Tomorrow (Saturday):
There will be some light rain in the morning before it tapers off into a few showers throughout the day. Tomorrow will not be a total washout, but conditions will remain damp. Skies will stay cloudy, and it will be breezy with a north wind at 10-15 mph with gusts to 20 mph. Temperatures will reach the mid 50s. The chance for rain will drop from near 60% in the morning to 30% in the afternoon.
Tomorrow Night:
Mostly cloudy skies will only allow temperatures to drop into the mid 40s. There will be a northwest breeze around 5 mph. There is only a 20% chance of rain.
A Look Ahead:
Sunday will be drier, but skies will remain mostly cloudy as temperatures top out close to 60 degrees. The upcoming week looks warmer than this past week, with temperatures close to average. Halloween could be one of the nicest days of the week with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the mid 60s.
