Evening Update: Seasonal Pendulum Swings Between Summer and Fall

In the typical Maryland fashion, the changing of the seasons has the weather quite confused. Cool, fall temperatures and rainy skies had College Park residents snuggling up inside this weekend, and maybe even starting their Monday with the first pumpkin spice latte of the season. However, yesterday and today temperatures snapped back to summer, with highs in the 80s, and even pushing 90 today. Amidst this indecisive weather, one constant has been the layer of clouds which have long overstayed their welcome in College Park, and don’t seem to be in any hurry to move out.

Tonight (Wednesday):

A cold front will come through tonight and stall to our south, bringing an 80% chance of showers tonight which will lessen in the early hours of the morning, as well as a severe thunderstorm watch tonight until 11 pm. The low will be around 62, with winds at 6 to 9 mph from the west until after midnight when they will come from the north.

Tomorrow (Tuesday):

There is an 80% chance of rain tomorrow, which will mostly come in the afternoon as a wave of low pressure crosses the stalled cold front tomorrow evening. The winds will come from the northeast at 6 to 8 mph, and the high will remain around 65 degrees.

Tomorrow Night:

Tomorrow’s rain will continue until around 2 am, and showers are likely after that. The chance of precipitation is 80%, and the low temperature will be a damp, chilly 57 degrees. It appears as though autumn is currently winning the battle of the seasons, and soon enough its cool temperatures and crisp breezes will settle in for the year. However, look out for some temperatures in the 70s coming up to ease the transition.
