Our Friday morning has been off to a gray, and at times wet, start giving us a glimpse of what conditions could be like at times over the weekend and the week ahead. Our high today is forecast to approach the upper 70’s with winds remaining light at around 10 miles per hour. Although the rain has tapered off for now, expect the afternoon to remain humid and mostly cloudy as we move into the evening.
Through Tonight:
For those hoping for a break in the weather to make for a more exciting night you’ll unfortunately be disappointed with the forecast for tonight. This evening will likely continue to be cloudy with a cool low of 69°F, and winds lowering down to between 6 and 10 miles per hour. We may see the return of rain as a cold front moves through the region this evening and to our south. Isolated and possibly scattered storms will be possible throughout the region with wind gusts also possible with these storms. However, any showers that do form will be short in duration, and once the front has passed conditions will begin to clear.
Tomorrow (Saturday):
Tomorrow is forecast to be cooler and drier, with a high in the mid 60’s and cloudy skies persisting but allowing for sun at times. With the cold front well to our south, chances for rain will be low as drier air moves into the region and the dew point begins to decrease. Winds will continue their trend of decreasing down to between 3 and 6 miles per hour. In short, Saturday should make for a pleasant day for both Family Weekend and tomorrow’s football game which will see our Maryland Terps facing off against the Minnesota Golden Gophers at our own Capitol One Field!
The Week Ahead:
For the week ahead, we can expect to once again find ourselves in wet conditions beginning possibly on Sunday and continuing into Monday. Currently models show the possibility of as much as an inch of rain from Sunday into Monday evening, although conditions that far out are always a moving target and we here at UMD weather should have a better idea of how much rain to expect with tomorrow’s forecast.
