Evening Update: Goodbye Sunshine, Hello Rain

I hate to put a damper on this beautiful day, but the sunshine and record breaking warm temperatures we have experienced the past two days will not stick around. Yes, that’s right, it is going to rain. It won’t be raining men either, just plain old rain, so soak up the sun while you can.

Through Tonight:

After a record breaking warm day, a cold front will pass through tonight and tomorrow (Thursday). This will bring cold air into the region from the North. There will also be showers and a slight possibility of thunderstorms this evening starting around 8 pm due to low pressure following the cold front. Overnight, temperature will drop into the mid 40s bringing a frigid close to a warm day. If you have evening plans, I would highly recommend that you bring your rain gear so you are prepared for the showers to come.

Tomorrow (Thursday):

The rainy weather will continue throughout the day tomorrow. It will be generally drizzly and misty with scattered showers in the DC/College Park area. The cold front that will move through will ensure that temperatures are much colder than today; the high temperature will be in the upper 40s to lower 50s. These temperatures are much more characteristic of February weather than what we have been experiencing. Overall, it will not be a great day for outdoor activities.

The front will move through our area tonight and early tomorrow morning followed by the rain outlined in green (Via the National Weather Service).

A Look Ahead:

The rain will hang around our area for the next several days. You can expect showers Friday as well as over the weekend until Sunday evening when the showers will finally begin to clear out. Over the weekend temperatures are expected to go up into the 60s, but then fall back down into the 50s for the start of your week.
