Evening Update: Winter Weather on the Way

Dry conditions and temperatures reaching the mid-40s made it a tolerable winter day. However, this pattern of bearable weather is expected to end as winter weather associated with a developing low pressure is expected to move over our area later tonight and tomorrow morning.

Tonight:

Temperatures tonight will drop just below freezing for our area with even lower temperatures expected in the northern and western suburbs. Winds will stay calm and pick up slightly after midnight to around 5 mph. A winter weather advisory is out for the DMV area as winter precipitation is expected to arrive in the early morning hours. Take caution during the morning commute as sleet and freezing rain is expected for our region and may cause roads to be slick.

Tomorrow:

Temperatures are expected to quickly rise above freezing over the course of the morning and cause the wintry mix to switch to rain. Temperatures will reach the mid 40s with a steady rain throughout the day before tapering off in the evening.

Less than an inch of snow expected for the DC area with higher snow totals north and west. (Via: NWS)
