Low pressure has produced unsettled weather and overcast skies throughout scattered parts of the region today. Temperatures gradually crawled to 70 in DC after occasional peaks of sunshine broke through mostly cloudy skies. Parts of the Mid-Atlantic region will experience a few roars of thunder along with scattered lines of heavy rain showers throughout the remainder of the evening. A trailing cold front will slide through tonight and bring cooler temperatures for Wednesday.
Throughout Tonight: There remains a likely threat for moderate to heavy rain showers and thunderstorms across the region. Currently, there is a strong line of showers located south of DC (see gif image below). The storm system will move southeast across the Virginia portion of I-95 and head for Fredericksburg and Leonardtown. Expected time of arrival is around 4 pm. Heavy rain and small hail are possible. After midnight, showers will lighten up and taper off. As the cold front passes, southerly winds will shift out of the north around 5-8 mph and bring in cooler air. Low temperatures will drop to the upper 40’s in suburban areas and near 50 in the District.

Tomorrow (Wednesday): Pleasant and chilly for Wednesday! You can leave your umbrellas at home tomorrow. High pressure will move in behind the cold front and quiet things down a bit (high pressure brings pleasant, clear, and mostly sunny skies). Plentiful sunshine will increase temperatures to the mid-60s. North winds, ranging from 10-14 mph, will provide a cool breeze with gusts up to 20+ mph.
