Evening Update: This Weekend Starts Out Cold, But Warming For Superbowl Sunday

Today truly felt like February as temperatures stayed in the 30s and clouds blanketed the sky. These cold conditions will continue through tonight and into Saturday, but temperatures will trend warmer for Superbowl Sunday and the beginning of next week.

Through Tonight:

It is still winter, which means nights can still be frigid. Tonight will be no different with temperatures dropping into the low 20s as clouds gradually clear. Winds will make it feel even colder so dress appropriate if headed outside. Winds will out of the northwest at 10-15 mph, gusting as high as 20 mph.

Tomorrow (Saturday):

Cold temperatures in the 20s to start the day will only reach the upper 30s by afternoon. However, the sun will make an appearance as high pressure builds over the region. Winds will be on the light side at 5-10 mph out of the west. Saturday night will also be a quiet night, with respect to weather, with increasing clouds and lows in the upper 20s.

Sunday:

A low pressure system that had been projected to give us a possible snowstorm will pass far to the north of the region. This will cause Sunday to be mostly cloudy and warmer as winds will shift to the south. High temperatures will be perfect for a pick-up football game and be in the mid 40s. Winds will be out of the southwest at 5-10 mph.

A Look Towards Next Week:

Next week’s weather looks like it could be a rollercoaster ride. A strong low pressure will form in the middle of the country and track towards the Great Lakes during the middle of the week. This will cause strong southerly winds for the College Park are that will bring warm temperatures with it. A strong cold front following this storm will then swing in towards the end of the week and possibly bring bitter cold temperatures. Stay tuned with UMD Weather on Facebook and Twitter for updates!
