There were lots of shorts and t-shirts sightings on campus today as temperatures warmed up into the low 70s in College Park. Given that it’s November 2nd, I am sure we won’t log too many complaints about this anomalously warm weather.
Through Tonight: Another perfect night to sleep with the window open. Despite mostly clear skies, temperatures will remain rather mild. Overnight lows should settle into the mid 50s around College Park with even milder temperatures in DC. Light winds from the south will gradually shift to a more south west direction, helping to reinforce the mild temperatures. Some high clouds will begin to leak into the area after midnight ahead of an approaching cold front.
Thursday: We will be flirting with record temperatures once again on Thursday, as strong southwest flow will push temperatures close to 80 degrees. Winds will pick up from the southwest ahead of an approaching cold front, which should pass through the area sometime between 4-6pm. Scattered showers and even an isolated thunderstorm or two are likely anytime in the afternoon. Behind the front, winds become rather gusty from the northwest as a colder air mass moves in and temperatures fall to more normal values overnight.
