{"id":1719,"date":"2017-01-11T17:24:09","date_gmt":"2017-01-11T22:24:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/weather.umd.edu\/?p=1719"},"modified":"2017-01-11T17:26:25","modified_gmt":"2017-01-11T22:26:25","slug":"evening-update-mid-january-thaw-out-before-chance-of-a-winter-storm-for-the-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/weather.umd.edu\/wordpress\/2017\/01\/11\/evening-update-mid-january-thaw-out-before-chance-of-a-winter-storm-for-the-weekend\/","title":{"rendered":"Evening Update: Mid-January Thaw Out Before Chance of a Winter Storm for the Weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After experiencing a\u00a0roller coaster ride of temperatures, this week\u00a0has consisted of\u00a0many\u00a0transitions for our area.\u00a0The mercury in the\u00a0thermometer fluctuated from the teen digits\u00a0(just a few days ago!) to now potentially reaching the upper 60&#8217;s for tomorrow.\u00a0By this weekend, we will prepare\u00a0ride back down the\u00a0roller coaster\u00a0towards a\u00a0potential ice storm that&#8217;s headed for the DC area.\u00a0This is Maryland weather for you!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Through Tonight:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For the remainder of the\u00a0evening and into\u00a0tonight, overcast skies will help\u00a0produce relatively mild temperatures. As a warm front passes through,\u00a0there will be about a\u00a060% chance of rain showers\u00a0between 6 p.m. and 1 a.m. By midnight, patchy fog is expected to develop in low lying areas and possibly along the beltway. Low temperatures should dip down into the mid-40s for most of the area along\u00a0with light to moderate winds out of the south.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tomorrow (Thursday):<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Constant prevailing winds from the south, combined with\u00a0a\u00a0warm front sweeping through Maryland, will\u00a0boost temperatures into the mid to upper 60s in the DMV. This has been much needed precipitation for them, as they have been enduring a severe drought. While lower elevations have been experiencing mudslides, the snow in higher elevations has piled up so much that some ski resorts have had to close down&#8230;too much of a good thing?
